Watch The Parable Of The Seed And The Sower For Kids

This first Sunday school lesson of a series about the parable of the sower will help the children discover how truly wonderful the Word of God is, and how we must keep it close to our hearts with truth and understanding. Between Jesus teaching the parable and explaining it to the disciples Jesus tells them that the difference in people's response is not the result of their efforts or the brilliance of their ministry strategy or the skill of their oratory, but rather the sovereign grace of God.
Of course you can study Shakespeare in depth or whatever trying to guess what the author meant here or there, but even the deepest philosophy in no way compares to the inexhaustible insights revealed by the Bible, not just in the parables but overall.



By teaching with parables, Jesus was able to explain abstract ideas in a way that people throughout Judea could relate to. Not only did this help them make a connection between their everyday lives and spiritual truth, but it also gave these truths sticking power.
Real people need real help making a genuine profession of faith and articulating the work of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. In addition, real kindness isn't shown with fancy words, but by doing jobs that most people don't want to do. Jesus told the story of a man who was attacked by robbers while traveling. Explain that when Jesus taught the people, he sometimes taught in parables, which are short stories that have hidden spiritual messages.
Today, we are going to learn about a story - or parable - that Jesus told that compares the Word of God to seed. As people work, encourage them to talk about the story they have just heard. If you want to make the sower bag, or a basket, you can use these seeds to 'toss' to the kids.

Narrator: Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Jesus' story is called the Parable of the Sower and the Seed. The Gospels record dozens of Jesus' parables—stories Jesus told to help people understand what the kingdom of heaven is like.
As I told the Bible lesson, I pretended to "sow the seeds". In Matthew and Luke, the parable is about the multiple ways in which the word of God is received. After helping the class to first understand that the seed can denote the Word of God, you can use Jesus' own explanation in verses 18-23 as the basis for your classroom discussion.
