Repairing Concrete Cracks Using Epoxy

Throughout the United States and Canada, the number of homes built on poured foundations has significantly increased. Per Item 786 in the Standard Specifications for Construction and Maintenance of Highways, Streets, and Bridges, the Texas Department of Transportation requires unidirectional high-strength carbon fiber fabric, fully saturated with compatible epoxy resin per manufacturer's recommendations, to form a CFRP system when making concrete repairs.
In this method, the hand placement of a low water content mortar is done by tamping or ramming of the mortar into place to make intimate Epoxy Injection contact between the mortar and the existing concrete. Once the ports are installed, you will need to seal the top of the crack.
The technician begins the epoxy crack injection through the lowest injection port until epoxy travels up the crack and becomes visible in the injection port immediately above it; then the lowest injection port is capped-off and epoxy is injected into the port immediately above it. This process is repeated until the injected epoxy is seen exiting the crack at the top of the foundation, or until the crack has been filled up to grade.

This paste is applied over the entire length of the foundation crack and, in conjunction with the soil outside, serves as a barrier to confine the epoxy within the foundation crack so that the injected epoxy is contained over the entire length of the crack.

With epoxy, it used to be that the homeowner would need to wait for the rain to stop and the ground to completely dry out before foundation repair could even begin as epoxy will not adhere to wet concrete.
