Khao Lak Diving Daytrips

Khao Lak is a beautiful but rather subdued resort town on the Andaman Sea. This option is great if you don't have much time but it can be a long and busy day, leaving early and getting Similan Diving back late, it also is quite an expensive option and doesn't cost much extra to stay overnight at the Similan's so if you have the time a liveaoard may be better value for money.
Khao Lak is the closest and most convenient departure point for diving and snorkelling trips to the awesome national park islands of Ko Similan, which can be reached in three to four hours on a live-aboard or other large boat or in two hours in a much less comfortable speedboat.

There is more than enough to do. It is a bit more crowded than other beaches as this area thrives on the tourism dollars that it brings in. The scuba diving is top notch in this area and you will also find some of the warmest most clear water in the world.

The national park's headquarters is on the headland between Nang Thong and Khao Lak beaches, and about 1km south of it, you can easily walk down to a quiet, pretty sandy cove - look for a sign saying small sandy beach” on the west side of the main road, opposite a layby.
There is, thankfully, little obvious evidence these days of the area's devastating experience during the December 2004 tsunami, when the undersea earthquake off Sumatra sent a series of murderous waves on to Khao Lak's shores (and the rest of the Andaman coast), vaporizing almost every shorefront home and hotel here and killing thousands.
Khao Lak, located just north of Phuket Island on the gorgeous Andaman seaboard, is one of Thailand's most peaceful resort destinations. Some diving trips depart from here to the Similan and Surin Islands, Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai and Koh Bon. But also in the eastern part of Phuket lying dive spots Shark Point, the King Cruiser Wreck and the Anemone Reef offer themselves as sophisticated dive sites.

Experience the best diving Thailand has to offer. This liveaboard also takes day trippers. The Similian Islands National Marine Park can be easily reached and lies 55 km due west of Khao Lak. Most Similan liveaboards departure these days from Thap Lamu, close to Khao Lak.
