Shinrin-yoku (experiencing the forest atmosphere or forest bathing) has received increasing attention from the perspective of preventive medicine in recent years. The two universities held a celebration party for this new monumental landmark for their collaboration at TajPamodzi Hotel Lusaka on 27th August, 2012 and its official opening ceremony at SamoraMachel School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zambia on the following day, 28th August.
The project evolved in collaboration with Tatsuaki Kanai, an international expert in heavy-ion radiation science from the NIRS, and builds 群馬県 on experience gained from the operation of HIMAC — the world's first medically-dedicated heavy-ion accelerator — located at the NIRS.
The purpose and guiding ideal of the Graduate School of Medicine is to advance human understanding of the mechanisms of biological phenomena, and thereby to conquer disease and promote health, and to do so through education, research, and training of international leaders who use their exemplary knowledge in all areas of medicine to do innovative advanced research.
These two disciplines have remained constant through the creation of the Gunma Medical Junior College in 1993, the closure of the College of Welfare in 1996, the creation of the current institution in 2005 and subsequent closure of the Junior College and the opening of a Graduate School in 2009.
Founded in 1995, Medinet provides cell engineers to medical institutions, grants institutions the rights to use Medinet's CPCs at their facilities, and analyses cell data to determine whether treatment has improved patients' immune responses or killed target tumours.
These include the COS curriculum, a combination of theoretical and clinical medical education; clinical clerkships; study abroad programs and overseas university transfer systems; and a new structure, introduced following the abolition of the post-university placement system, which consists of five streams?theory, basic diagnosis and treatment, internal medicine, surgery, and specialist care.

This was followed by four parallel sessions dedicated to Environment and Energy,” Health,” Education, Humanity and Society” and ”Agriculture and Food.” In each session, participants and panelists discussed ways for universities in Japan and South Africa to collaborate in the future to solve global and local problems and achieve set SDGs.
